Discovering what's there...

I love the idea of a "stay-cation", where you explore your own city for a week, checking out all it has to offer. Joe and I have recently been really looking at our budget, and after a good month of careful spending, decided to celebrate with a family trip to the National WWI Museum in Kansas City, MO. What a delight! While it costs $12 per adult, it buys you two days of endless knowledge in a well-done museum. Everything from the set up, the exhibits, displays, and theater, as well as a trip up to the top of the Liberty Memorial Tower (gorgeous view of Kansas City), made it well worth the cost. So with Judah tucked snuggly into the new Moby wrap (sown together that morning by me), we went on a tour of our world's history, truly moved by the over 9 million lives that were lost in this "Great War".

Now, the WWI Museum isn't the only treasure KC has to offer. I won't do an endless plug for the Nelson-Atkins Art Museum (a former place of work near and dear to my heart), but their stuff is constantly changing. Know that in your museum (whether it be art, natural, or historical) only 5% of what the museum owns is on view- the other 95% is in storage! So once you've seen a Museum, you haven't "seen" it.

Other places we hope to visit in the future? The Treasures of the Steamboat Arabia, maybe the Toy and Miniature Museum, Powell Gardens (a botanical garden), Deanna Rose Farmstead, the Zoo (once it gets its new polar bear exhibit!), and The City Market. I love exploring! So I encourage you to get your city-spelunking hats on, and check out what's near you! It's a fun adventure for the whole family, no matter how little the littlest one is.

I like their art museum. Thanks for the other ideas though!
