Passing the time...

Sorry again... Yet again I've procrastinated and haven't posted for quite some time. Life is just flying by truthfully. Like one of those Thunderbird jets you see at Air shows...

Anywho. Our little dude is 4 months old. 4 months old! He's one of the happiest little people I know, and his personality shows it. But since he's still itty-bitty, I've managed to read 9 books in the last 2 months. I read during feedings, naps, and if the book is good, before bed too. It's helped me open up my mind to not only popular books, but pure classics that reside in our library but have never had their binding cracked. So here is a short list and book report on the 10 (I'll add the one I'm currently reading)...

1. The Little Prince- a classic that was read by the French students in my high school. Semi-sad, but a good quick read.
2. The Secret Garden- another classic. I realized that I had never read it, and I loved it. I truthfully couldn't put it down. Some of it was a little obvious, mainly cause its meant for children, but still really good.
3. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows- I love the whole Harry Potter series. I wanted to reread this favorite before the movie comes out in November. Delightful, and kinda dark.
4. Under the Tuscan Sun- while I enjoyed her musings on Italian food and culture, I got a bit bored with all her home renovation talk. It's probably cause I don't own a home. But I made my way through it, recalled my Italian Art History class, and added it to my bookshelf of cookbooks in the end.
5. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone- Since I read the last, I wanted to reread the first. Always good. I forgot how funny Ron Weasley can be.
6. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets- and since I read the first, I had to read the second. Third through sixth to come...
7. The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader- I reread this classic (I love the Narnia tales) for the same reason I read HP7. This movie comes out in December!
8. Sheet Music- I know... kind of a break from the norm. But my husband and I had bought it near the beginning of our marriage, and then never touched it. So I delved into it and found it very enlightening. I'd recommend it to all married couples.
9. The Count of Monte Cristo- Delightfully dark, and NOTHING like the movie. I was appalled by the movie's lack of accuracy once I finally read this classic. Disgusted by it really. The book was a mystery, romance, and drama all rolled into one.
10. Wuthering Heights- my current read. I fought against reading this one I'll admit. I watch the movie because someone recommended I do so to straighten the characters out in my head first. But after watching that, I felt like I was in a dark cave of despair. I said I wouldn't read it, but then I was morosely interested and picked it up finally. It's pretty good, but to show how much I loathe the main characters- PLOT SPOILER: I was overjoyed when Catherine (Cathy) died.

So. What have you been reading?

  1. Reading...reading? The books I've read most often are The Berenstein Bears "Forget their manners", "Too much junk food", and "Learn about Strangers" rounded out with many Sandra Boynton books, as Bria received 2 new ones for her birthday. We particularly like her "Belly Button Book!" and "Moo, Baa, La la la". :) As for reading for MY pleasure...well, reading to my kids is my pleasure now. Though I did pick up and start reading "By The Shores of Silver Lake" by Laura Ingalls Wilder the other day. Don't know when I'll get to finish it though... ;)
