So, as I've recently "blogged" about, I've taken an interest in homeschooling. While I'm not saying that we plan to homeschool Judah, it's not out of the picture either. The best way I've heard it described was "everyone homeschools. Whether they send their kids to school or not, if the child is learning things from mom and/or dad, they are homeschooled." But today, I got a sneak-peak at what it would be like to fully homeschool! Mondays at church, a small group of homeschoolers are getting together to do a co-op (cooperative) of the curriculum "Classical Conversations". This covers a wide variety of things- history, Latin, science, geography, and math. I'll give you a snippet of each:
History: This week's memory fact is "In 800 AD, Pope Leo III crowned Charlemange Holy Roman Emperor of Europe."
Latin: Conjugation of the word "Amo" meaning "I love"- (sing to the tune of Frère Jacques) amo, amas, amat, amamus, amatis, amant.
Science: What are the 7 types of land biomes? Grassland, desert, tundra, coniferous forest, deciduous forest, tropical rainforest, and urban sprawl
Geography: What are the 6 seas? Mediterranean, Adriatic, Artic, North, Baltic, and English Channel
And Math, we learned for the preschoolers how to count to 12, and the kindergartners how to count to 16 by 2's! So we had a full afternoon of learning. And in bible story time, PE, story time with craft, memory verse and children's catechism time and that was our afternoon!
I already love school, but knowing that I get to teach Judah all this stuff whether or not he goes to a formal school gets me crazy pumped.
We LOVE having you there blessing us all with your time and energy, Maggie! You are gonna be a great homeschool Mom!! :)
